THEY may need to hold their breath for another couple of years before the first facilities are built, but many wanting to be cremated upon death will at last be able to have their final wish carried out in this country after the Council of State approved a bill allowing cremation for [...]

PRESS RELEASE
7 October 2008
GHM leaves EU-sponsored INGO that disavows GHM for objecting to its tolerance of homophobia: “homosexuals are sick persons who require treatment and should not have rights!”
Greek Helsinki Monitor (GHM) considers unacceptable that an international Non-Governmental Organization, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN), funded by the EU and [...]
No. There is no racism in Greece and those of us who see it, hear it or read it are paranoid or worse. We are deliberately trying to make Greece look bad to the rest of the world.
So what’s this then ? Oh, a racist leaflet doing the rounds in Patras ?
Translation of [...]
I wanted to bring your attention to a rape trial that was to take place very soon here in Athens. However,
Everyone at the Public Prosecution Office - judges, officials, lawyers - would be working on the day the trial was scheduled to begin, except for ONE clerk. But, as it was explained to me, [...]
Apologies to all my regular readers here. I am really busy with real life and have not had a chance to research and write properly.
You’ll be pleased to know that I have been elevated (again) to “Enemy of the State”.
I have been linked to a Greek nationalist site (again) and have been flooded [...]

The results are out.
Congratulations to everyone who won.

So holidays are over and I’m back to blogging (admittedly in a rather haphazard way). I am working in the background on the Less Than 1% campaign and catching up on a few things. I am hoping that we can revitalise DD live this autumn. I miss the chats and the laughs. I also miss [...]
Asylum in Greece Campaign
15 Comments Published by deviousdiva August 28th, 2008 in Asylum, Personal.I was inspired by a comment from merhan who called for some action from me on asylum in Greece. I have decided to start a blog/website/facebook campaign for proper asylum procedures here. I am currently designing the logo for it and here is what I have come up with:
The “LESS THAN 1%” comes from the [...]

Over the past two weeks or so, I have enjoyed the most relaxing and wonderful holiday period that I have had in years. The kid has been away (on and off) for almost a month, spending his time swimming, eating and running around doing things that only kids can really understand. [...]
What could be better than this ? See you next week…
I just realised that it’s been quite a few days since I wrote a post here. Yes, I’m being completely lazy but also the love of my life is on holiday now so there are many better things to do than sit at my computer.
And the sea is calling us. We will be out [...]
My thoughts are with those affected by the earthquake that hit Greece yesterday.
It happened at 3.25pm on Sunday in the area of Kato Achaia and was a 6.5 magnitude quake. 2 people died and approximately 125 people were injured.
I felt it here in Athens and that was scary enough. I cannot imagine how [...]
Two more links for today…
This one is shocking to say the least:
Grandiloquence no substitute for deeds
Ultimately, a state is judged by the amount of care it provides to its weakest members
. On this front, the Greek state scores negative marks and the numbers illustrate just how poor its performance is.
Of the some 180,000 children in [...]
