Bulgarian police said on Monday they had broken an international sex-trafficking ring and arrested a Greek man believed to have run the operation.
The women from Moldova, Ukraine and Uzbekistan were sent as sex workers to Greece via neighbouring Bulgaria using fake Bulgarian identity documents, police said in a statement.
Police said they had charged the Greek man with trafficking.
Surveys by Bulgarian non-governmental organisations say that sex-trafficking brings in about 1.8 billion euros (1.4 billion pounds) a year to the gangs behind it, making it the European Union newcomer’s most profitable criminal activity.

It is happening right here in Canada as well. I was shocked to read last week that right here in Toronto young girls are being kidnapped at bus stations and forced into prostitution. The police broke up a ring and rescued about 10 teens. Some day I will tell you how I almost ended up like at at age 16 in Germany…ciao

Would be willing to share your experience in Germany with us ? I think it’s so important for people to hear personal accounts of the things we read about in the press. I would only post it with your permission and I completely understand if you don’t want to share this publicly.
Maybe, when we meet again I will tell you how that came about but it’s not something I want to share publicly, sorry…ciao

Any follow up to this story?
@ rositta. I completely understand. No need to apologise.
@sid, I haven’t found anything more on this story. As soon as I do, I will post it. Thank you for asking and welcome to my blog.
Thanks for the welcome deviousdiva. You have a nice blog here.
The funny (or saddening, depending on how you see it) thing is, as heliotypon (in Greek) notices, that even though an ancient Greek word still exists in modern Greek vocabulary for “sex-trafficking”, (μαστροπεία -> mastropeia,) the term that Greek authorities tend to use for some reason is “emporium of white flesh”, which is a contemptible choice for a number of reasons, the most important of which being that it probably dates back from the times when “emporium of black flesh” was not a crime, so a distinction needed to be somehow made.
