My thoughts are with those affected by the earthquake that hit Greece yesterday.
It happened at 3.25pm on Sunday in the area of Kato Achaia and was a 6.5 magnitude quake. 2 people died and approximately 125 people were injured.
I felt it here in Athens and that was scary enough. I cannot imagine how those people near to the epicentre must have felt with buildings collapsing and people being buried under rubble.

I was so scared. I’ve never felt anything like this before. I dived under the table and waited for it to end. Once it stopped, the entire neighbourhood ran out into the streets and tried to call loved ones, but the networks had jammed, which added to the fear

It’s not only that it was very strong, it lasted a very long time. I was taking a siesta, but when I got out of bed, I immediately fell. It was so powerful I couldn’t stand on my feet

My condolences go out to the people of Kato Achaia. I had visited Kato Achaia numerous times in the 1990s while deployed to the American base at Araxos (next city over from Kato Achaia).
During those visits to Kato Achaia, I found a very warm, and welcoming group of people who truly supported the American Base at Araxos and Americans in general.
God speed to rebuild Kato Achaia!
SO sad that two people lost their lives, but thank God for the anti earthquake measures which meant it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
