Northerner, I don’t think Xenos was directing that comment at you but rather the media, so no worries.

I’m not sure if you live in Athens, but if so, ride the metro and you can see all the missing children on the posters. According to Kathemerini today, there were 22 children that are still missing from 2007.

I never said anyone should rely on the press to protect his interests.Quite the contrary.

Their criteria?They would never miss an opportunity to terrorise people.And abductions of children right in front of their mothers at shopping malls in Athens would be the perfect opportunity for them to spread fear.That’s why they would be all over it.

In any case, i’ll repeat that there’s no such thing as being too careful these days.Better safe than sorry.

Northener, I thought the same thing initially. I’m a big fan of not believing in urban legends etc, but when I floated this suggestion to my wife and our friend, I received an angry “YES IT DID HAPPEN”, so although your advice is just as good, I’m not 100% convinced it did not happen.

And Xenos does have a point. The Greek media will pick up a story that it thinks will get ratings, but what criteria they use is another thing.

Unfortunately you can never be too careful these days, George.But if something like that had really happened the press would be all over it.

Most probably an urban myth that your friend heard from another friend, who had heard it from another friend etc, etc.

But as i said above being more conscious with your child is definitely a good thing.

Diva and all others in Athens. A friend of ours in Kypseli has said that children have been abducted from the Mall, and more scary is that in one case (in Kypseli) a child was playing right in front of the mother, and a motorcycle drove right up to the child and the passenger on the back of the motorcycle scooped up the child and drove off. I cannot verify this but our friend is a reliable person, and it certainly has made me much more cautious with my own child.
