As I have understood, it was mainly French Reporters without borders who got through the security checks, and they were protesting about human rights abuses (in general) by China. The Tibetans were more successful after the ceremony, on the streets where the flame was being carried.

The Greek police reacted fairly quickly, maybe a little too quickly concerning the right to protest...

The Chinese media blocked all reporting of the protests (including BBC and other foreign media), so they are unknown inside China. At least one Greek channel also edited out the protests, and generally the Greek media understated the importance of the demonstrations, preferring to focus on the fake Ancient Greek ceremony...

Do I think the Greek police allowed the protest to happen ? No.

What I think happened (personal opinion) is that the police were not prepared for the possibility of a protest of that kind (ie they were not from the leftie-arnarcho-hippy lot).

Why I do not know...given the noise that has been made on behalf of Tibet. A mixture of incompetence and arrogance in a way.

And I don't think they were all Tibetans. They were a group from Reporters without Borders as far as I know ?

Interesting to me is that in China, the protest passed by unnoticed.

DD, what did you think of the tibet protest? Do you think the Greek police allowed them to do that. There was supposedly 1000 police in Olympia to protect the delegation so how could the Tibetans have snuck thru.

I'm curious to hear what others think?
