Still No Crematorium
Published by deviousdiva March 3rd, 2008 in Legal Issues. Two years ago today, I wrote a post about a law that had passed that allowed cremation in Greece for the first time in modern history. One year ago, I wrote a post pointing out that although cremation was now legal, there was still no crematorium.
Today, I am still wondering when and if this situation is ever going to move forward. I realise that plans to build a crematorium takes time but two years ? Two years to decide even where it is to be built ? I wonder if this issue is like many others that arise in Greece. There is a flurry of activity, angry debate and demonstrations until a resolution is found and then “let’s forget about it and hope it goes away”.
Are there any groups or committees trying to push for the building of a crematorium ?
Are there still powerful objections to it being constructed (ie the Greek Orthodox church) ?
If not, has a site been decided on ?
How much longer is this all going to take ?
And I suppose Greece is decades away from this idea ?
Technorati: greece, cremation, burial, law, orthodox church
