Two years ago today, I wrote a post about a law that had passed that allowed cremation in Greece for the first time in modern history. One year ago, I wrote a post pointing out that although cremation was now legal, there was still no crematorium.

Today, I am still wondering when and if this situation is ever going to move forward. I realise that plans to build a crematorium takes time but two years ? Two years to decide even where it is to be built ? I wonder if this issue is like many others that arise in Greece. There is a flurry of activity, angry debate and demonstrations until a resolution is found and then “let’s forget about it and hope it goes away”.

Are there any groups or committees trying to push for the building of a crematorium ?
Are there still powerful objections to it being constructed (ie the Greek Orthodox church) ?
If not, has a site been decided on ?
How much longer is this all going to take ?

And I suppose Greece is decades away from this idea ?

One Response to “Still No Crematorium”

  1. Yvonne Haynes says:

How can I get my Granmother “cremated” in Cyprus???
She currently stays bed-ridden in Paphos Cypurs, but has spoke her last words of wanting to be buried with her daughter in England. How can we make this happen, as per her last wishes? She is currently unable to travel back to England, therefore her passing is inevitable.
Please advise! Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Sincere regards
