Questionaire
Published by deviousdiva January 9th, 2008 in Blogging.I would love it if you would take time to look in the sidebar below “Recent Comments” and take my poll. I would like to make THIS IS NOT MY COUNTRY better for all of you. Thank you.
UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who has already voted in this poll. I will be looking at your answers and seeing what positive additions I can make to my place. Voting will be open for another few days so let me know what you think if you haven’t done so already.
Please contact me if you would like to be a guest blogger on either a one-off basis or as a regular writer. I am always looking for people interested in making a contribution here. I am working on a new guest blogger page. I used to have one but it got lost in the upgrades and problems I was having last month. Hopefully, it will be back up later today.
I’d really love to hear from you if you are interested.

The bitterness that comes out of this website is profound. A black woman living in Greece spends so much time trying to find errors in my people’s culture and way of living. We have our own problems. We have to deal with with them and live our lives everyday. I don’t know from which country you have migrated here. Let me know and I’ll show you how easily I can fill-up a blog too after doing some Google research on it and see how racism or other issues are handled there. Again let me know where you come from. Maybe you don’t feel wanted in Greece because of the color of your skin or maybe because you have personal issues. Let me tell you a secret. You have to learn these three words ” Φιλοτιμο, Φιλοξενεια, Ανθρωπια”. I know, they can be complicated, have several meanings, used in many different ways etc. Once you spend time with them though and you feel them and understand them you will not feel so alienated and distant from my people. Stop “thinking out of the box” and enter the Greek culture.
PS Once you learn these three words your soul will want to know more. It will be up to you if you will listen to it or not.
Yannis [why do you leave your name in Greek characters when writing on an English blog?]: what exactly inspired you to write this nasty personal attack? Is it that Greek culture is so wonderful, that you feel obliged to explain this to all of us?
One expression you use is very revealing: “stop thinking out of the box”. For me, this sums up Greece: just do as you are told, let the rich families suck the country dry, while you sit on the beach, drink frappe all day, spend your time in clubs….Whatever you do, don’t think!
With this mentality, Greece is doomed. The country will never cut it in the modern competitive world, and Greeks will continue begging for EU money whilst doing nothing to earn it. The amazing thing is that you people are actually proud of your inability to work, to think, or to get things to function properly. This is not to say that other countries are doing so brilliantly at this time, but at least people there are not proud of their indolence and intolerance.
Just let me visit your website for a while…
The website you link to at least !…
Ah ! OK.
Never mind…
In Ancient Greece, I could believe Filotimo, Filoksenia, and anthropia.
In Ancient Greece, the foreigner (Ksenos-guest) was one to be protected, revered, and taken care of.
Unfortunately, in Modern Greece, the foreigner is one to be verbally abused, taken advantage of, or otherwise mistreated.
Unfortunately, their are quite a few missing links between the Ancients and the moderns.
George, the foreigner (xenos) in ancient Greece was to be protected, revered, and taken care of. However, the xenos was never allowed to settle in and enjoy the full rights of citizenship unless the constitution of the city-state allowed this which often required at least one parent to be autochthonous. Modern Greeks are much more liberal than their ancient ancestors.
I can’t figure out how to vote over there, so here’s my vote.
I love what you do. Keep on doing it, this way.
Oh, and Yannis, let me share two words with you, my friend:
“Grow up.”
PS: My url has changed.
Hey QuakerDave,
Thank you for your kind words.
I’ve corrected my blogroll!
Very happy to see you are still around.
Oops ! I accidentally closed the poll. It’s open again if you would like to vote.
