Happy Holidays

I’m off to do some last minute panic shopping (I love it really) I’ll be doing lots of cooking, a great pastime for keeping warm in our unheated house. I’ll be flopping around looking terribly glamourous in my twenty five layers of jumpers and socks topped off with my very attractive woolly hat ! Hopefully, we will be doing lots of eating, drinking and being merry (another great way of keeping warm). I’ll raise a glass and think of you in all the far-flung corners of the world who have become my friends over these past few years.

Diva, Why no heat in your house? Is this a problem with the landlord, discrimination? or something else?
You can always get a small electric heater fan at Praktiker, or any small electrical store for 30-40 Euros max (if I remember price right), and then you can have heat in any small room in your house.
You could all stay in one room and keep warm with the small heater.
I’m sorry to hear you have no heat and I hope you will soon.

My sympathies about heating. I used to live in a monokatoikia with a beautiful roofgarden at the top of Lykavittos, but winters were hell. It didn’t matter HOW much money I spent on heating, because all the heat went straight out through the concrete roof and cold walls. I gave up trying to persuade the owners to put false ceilings in, to provide some heat insulation, and eventually moved out.
No, no. No problems with the landlord apart from a bit of incompetence. The house has central heating but before we moved in the petrol tank had broken or blown up or something. He was going to replace it but we suggested putting in gas instead. This all should have been finished two months ago but as you can see we are still waiting.
We do have a small electric heater for the living room but the room is quite big so it only manages to take the edge off. We can’t have anymore heaters in the room because the fuse blows already when you put the kettle on! (I know all you Greece dwellers know what I’m talking about!)
We just have to wait this one out along with all the other things that need fixing but it’ll be lovely when it’s all done. It really makes you appreciate the things you once took for granted, I can tell you.
I’ve lit loads of candles in the living room to give it the look of being warm. And the tree lights add to the effect. All we need now is a couple of dozen friends to drop by and really warm the place up.
