thankyou for the very informative read. i have to admit all my preconceptions were indeed based on propaganda and the 'ramanticised' and 'roguish' images of paintings and movies and books. i am finding this with many cultures, and feel a wish to travel and find out the real colour of people and places myself, through actually being there (rather than being fed ideas). am studying art and design and a paper we are doing focuses on the 'media' of religion-and-state driven propaganda of history in europe. even the 'romantic' (roma-ntic) images ive enjoyed now seem like they must be a bit nausiating to whom they represent. perhaps it isnt all bad though... i am from scottish and irish and viking decent, and some of the 'romantic' notions from here appeal to me in a funny way. i often put my quick temper, and assertive 'you wana fight?' attitude (and love of music BAGPIPES&WHISTLES AND FIDDLES WHOO)down to my roots. scratch the surface and i think underneath, all peoples are proud and fierce and life-loving folk.

much praise to you, for your efforts to enlighten and uphold. i will think deeper when i next see the 'gypsies' in movies.

thankyou
