Fourteen suspects have been indicted in the disappearance and suspected murder of Alex Meshivili (Alex blog in Greek). The suspects are the five children who are suspected of killing him, seven parents who are charged with negligent supervision of a minor, and a grandparent and older brother accused of harboring a criminal and perjury. I am wondering why the adults are not being charged with other crimes as it seems they helped move and hide his body. Perhaps the article has not covered all the charges.
From Kathimerini
According to a prosecutor who has been investigating the case for four months, the children appear to have hidden Meshivili’s body for two days after his death before transferring it, using a wheelbarrow, from a derelict building in Veria to the banks of a local river where they are believed to have dumped the body.
Some of the young suspects have suggested, in their depositions, that they pushed Meshivili and that he fell over and struck his head. Adults are suspected of helping to dispose of the body.

I’m glad they finally decided to indict them. What took so long?? Well, perhaps more serious charges will he made against the parents once more information comes out. Nobody wants to go to jail. They’ll start turning on each other and, hopefully, the truth will finally be known.
Then maybe poor Alex will be able to rest in peace.
How unbearable it must be for his parents, just not knowing the truth.
I will continue to follow this case and update here as and when news comes in.

Youngsters go on trial for Alex murder
The trial of five schoolchildren accused of killing 11-year-old Alex Meshivili in Veria, northern Greece, in February 2006, is due to start at a juvenile court in Thessaloniki today.

The children’s parents and one of their grandparents will be tried in different courts.
According to a lengthy investigation, the children appear to have argued with Alex and pushed him over during a fight. The 11-year-old is thought have hit his head on some steps and then died. The youngsters are believed to have hidden Meshivili’s body for two days and then dumped it in a local river.
