Yeah! Damn right! Go back home complainers!

Off you go! Shoo! Away with you!

I mean us Greeks don't have a problem waiting weeks for our incompetant state owned telephone company to perform a simple 'home-move' from one property to another so why do you foreigners? Huh? Huh? Huh?

Huh? Why is it a problem? We appreciate that extremely bad service is part of our culture and we embrase it and hold it close to our hearts!

That is why you never see a Greek blowing his/her top when trying to achieve even the smallest of task with the public sector due to the fact that they just screw up each and every time.

/EllasDevil will now return to the real world and wish all readers a very good day!

johnDO, please calm down. I am not saying Greece is the worst country in the world. I am complaining about not having an internet connection for 6 weeks. Also I am not American.

Hi danilena, thanks for your story. I know BT can truly suck. ;-)

The complainers complaining about Greece should stop the whining and go back home. The Americans compllain the most and the loudest so it all adds up.
If you do not like Greece get the hell out of the country.
Yes we understand, you would be missing your McDonalds on every corner and super size this and supersize that.
Appreciating others culture is about accepting things that are different.
We know the damage to the world the Yanks have done to the world. Go back home complainers.

ahhh...
this is one of those occasions where greek pride steps in (I didn't even know I had one :-) and I am forced to recount my adventures of setting up broadband in central london! first we had to get a BT line, which apparently would be easy because the previous occupants had one. the best part of it was when a week after the supposed activation I called BT (from a friend's house obviously) and the lady kept trying to convince me that our phone line was working perfectly. I finally managed to get a BT guy to come and fix it... and then the talktalk nightmare began ! instead of the advertised 2 week activation period, it took about 2 months and endless negotiations with incredibly patient people in india (I am still amazed by outsourcing ! the world is too small these days)...and to top it all up when the first bill came we had been billed for the "free" 30 day trial period as well! I probably shouldn't complain though, since after the whole thing worked it never broke down. a friend with an orange connection is offline every couple of days for a few hours! you just hang in there diva, and we'll all be around when you're properly back...

Good luck! We waited 4 months... I wish you better!

Have you checked around for any wifi networks near your place? Maybe you can ask a neighbour if you can share their wifi for a while. (The most difficult part is always to find out where that signal belongs to.) Otherwise maybe ask around and go to a friends place for a couple of hours instead of to the 'net cafe.

when i arrived in greece in 1980, we had to wait for years for a phone -- phone lines were routinely bought and sold, much like real estate.

we also had to walk for miles and miles to get to school :P

anyway, don't worry -- we'll be here when you get back online.

Heh, what did you think, D? Didn't you know how it goes "edo sto ellada"? You will be without internet for a couple of months, and when they do finally set it up you better be polite and thankful to them, and PRAY they set it up right, because if they don't, you will be --how did Woody Allen put it?-- stuck, and there'll be no way out, and you'll be raging impotently against your persecutors...

(Leonidas style now) THIS IS OTEEEEE!

No, seriously now, I feel for you. I had to go through this during May and June, and the only reason I managed to pull through it all without committing any terrorist acts was because I have awesome internet connectivity at work, so I do not care. And if my current ISP misbehaves, I'll show them the finger and solemnly wait another couple of months to switch to a different one.

BTW, There are so many Internet Cafes around, are you sure you can't find a less insulting one by investing some more time searching?
