The Fires

The fires are still raging in Greece. 63 people have died.

I would like to add my voice to all the other bloggers here who have expressed their sadness, grief and anger at this tragedy.

In the end though, there really are no words.

We are watching the news with sadness and disgust. We can’t believe there are people who would do these things, It is a form of terrorism, isn’t it?

I guess some of you may have already heard about this, but there is an event scheduled at syntagma tomorrow at 7 in the evening. It will be in the style of the parnitha demonstration ie no formal affiliation with any party, no chanting or breaking of things. I was sent an invitation on facebook by a group called “burn your myth in greece” and I thought of reposting it here in case anyone else is interested. I know it’s not much, but if enough people show up it might be.

It is interesting zappa blames ‘capitalism’.

The real blame should be made to socialism and communism. The same people he loves. The anarchists who love to destroy, the albanians (2 were arrested over fires) whose ‘rights’ he loves to defend. The Greek state is bureaucratic. Why? One word: PASOK.

PASOK run Greece into the ground for so many years. Corruption and communism go hand in hand.

Vote Karatzaferis and LAOS in September.

  6. 6 GeorgeNo Gravatar

Actually, the only people I’ve seen arrested were Greeks. I had not heard of any Albanians arrested. Could you elaborate?

Also, the Laos party is an extreme right party who is trying to make us believe being racist is OK.

Communists and LAOS folks have a lot in common. They are both on the fringe and sensible folks don’t pay them any mind.

  7. 7 deviousdivaNo Gravatar

I have not heard that any of the suspects were Albanian. That is just a typical knee-jerk and racist response to any crime that happens here.

There are all kinds of conspiracy theory ideas flying around at the moment. I would rather wait and see who is behind this tragedy, rather than playing this rather silly blame game.

LAOS supporters are using this and any other problem to support their cause. They are an right-wing racist nationalist party and only extremists would have anything to do with them

actually I dont give a dime if some anarchist burns a mercedes, or a bookshop delivering racist lies in his neighbourhood. That does not mean that I approve of their methods. Also most anarchists are profound ecologists, and a big part of them took part in the demo outside the parliament.
Now about the Albanian-UCK thing. Every kind of news that is delivered by Kouris owned media (and especially the yellowish Avriani) is at least of questionable truth, if not a profound lies…Maybe you should watch some of your own. It is widely known that the part o Parni8a that was burned was claimed by the Casino. It is also widely known that the areas burned in Penteli and Ymitos were pieces of land claimed by the church.
And if you ask people in the Peloponese, they will surely tell you that big works contractors and real estate agencies are behind the fires…
Oh and another thing. The Police also arested an elderly woman for causing a fire….Does that mean that all senior citizens are liable to set fires in the countryside???

And one other thing…if communism and corruption go hand in hand, well, I guess the new democracy goverment are comunists…..george w bush is a communist too…..and what about Vladimir Putin…hell he is also Russian, so he has it in his blood…

  9. 9 GeorgeNo Gravatar

What I’m curious is why the Greek Church has been so silent about this whole fire deal? How come they haven’t come out in force and offered money and assistance. Jeez, they own almost half of Greece and you’d think they would be the first ones to reach their hands under their robes and donate.

“actually I dont give a dime if some anarchist burns a mercedes, or a bookshop delivering racist lies in his neighbourhood.”

Then you have no respect for the rule of law. You are nothing but a Goth at the gates of Rome. Those who break the law must be punished, those who throw molotov cocktails at police stations must be brought before a jury of their peers so that justice can be dispensed upon their wicked souls.

“And one other thing…if communism and corruption go hand in hand, well, I guess the new democracy goverment are comunists…..george w bush is a communist too…..and what about Vladimir Putin…hell he is also Russian, so he has it in his blood…”

Greece is more corrupt than Russia and USA. Look at transparency international. USA isn’t a very corrupt society to be honest, people pay their taxes and they dont have to bribe fucking doctor to get treatment.

Crush Communism, long live freedom and capitalism.

  11. 11 zappaNo Gravatar

to all those mixing freedom with capitalism….in capitalism you are as free as your wallet and your social status allow you to be….

  12. 12 CrushCommunismNo Gravatar

“to all those mixing freedom with capitalism….in capitalism you are as free as your wallet and your social status allow you to be….”

No, you have the freedom of enterprise, you can take out a loan, open a shop and if you take this risk and run your business well, you can open another shop and so on. This is the beauty of capitalism. You have the freedom to own property, the freedom to hire and fire your employees if they dont do their job and so on.

What the fuck freedom communism give you?

  13. 13 GeorgeNo Gravatar

Zappa, although I don’t agree with Mr. Crush’s dirty language, I agree with his principle against communism.

Why don’t you ask any of those immigrants from Eastern European countries how they liked living under Communism vs today.

Specifically, ask the Romanians living under Ceausescu, (remember they executed the guy on the spot), or any of the other Eastern Euro block. Ask them if they would have preferred instead to be a recipient of the US Marshall plan and today have their country looking like wealthy Germany or even semi-wealthy Greece….

North Korea and Cuba are fine examples of communist countries in action. Why not visit there and then report back to us and see how much fun you have there. However, not as a Greek tourist with your cash, but as an actual person working, living, and surviving on what they do.

  15. 15 GeorgeNo Gravatar

Zardoz, I’ve never heard that the CIA was behind Ceausescu’s killing. That is quite interesting though. Can you give me a link on that. I’d love to read more about that since I’m interested in visiting Romania soon.

Also, I don’t know if you watch Mr. Papachellas on Greek TV, but he wrote a cute article about Greeks and their conspiracy theories. What do you think of this article in Kathemerini. Just curious…

  16. 16 SmashCommunismNo Gravatar

    “devoted to the sicko…”

Yes, I am the ’sicko’ because I hate socialism and communism, right?

Also zardoz and zappa, my father is a businessman with a relatively expensive mercedes, would you and your anarchist buddies like to torch that? You have no respect for the rule of law, I despise you communist anarchists. Karatzaferis was TOTALLY RIGHT about all of you!

  17. 17 zardozNo Gravatar

    DEAR GEORGE,

i suppose i went looking for that (PAPAHELLAS STORY I MEAN),
but if you remember the execution of TCHAOYSESKOY and wife , their execution
was mainly based on the fact that mainstream
western news were reporting the death of 80,000
rumanians prior to the execution , making it easy for the toppling of the rom com party
THIS WAS A FACT the news that is ,
but 80,000 bodies from mass slaughter were never found.

on a personal basis the toppling this romanian
goverment in my mind was correct .
but it didnt come by the people for the people .
i shall refind the sites i mentioned and put them here THANK YOU =Z=
