Stronger
The response to my recent outing by nationalists and racists has been incredible. People have posted on their own blogs and the story has spread all over the blogworld. I have been unable to respond individually to everyone due to the sheer number of voices speaking out against what happened to me. One blog post (my apologies for not remembering where I read this. Please let me know if it was you so I can add a link) talked about how the result of this originally racist action has backfired on the perpetrators. The Roma series especially, has received more attention than I could ever have hoped to achieve myself. If the people who have done this to me were worthy of my thanks, I would give it to them. But the thank you belongs to all of you who spoke out. All of you who came and read the series. All of you who offered help. All of you who brought attention to the plight of the Roma here in Greece and in the rest of the world. I cannot say it enough. Your words and support have got me through this very difficult time.
On the day before I found out THAT post, my mum had been admitted to hospital, my baby sister is going through an extremely difficult period in her life, my brother-in-law was rushed to hospital with a severe asthma attack and I was 3000 miles away, unable to be there for my loved ones. So you can imagine how this time has been.
Both my mum and brother-in-law are fine now and well. My baby sister, who is the sweetest and kindest person I have ever known, is getting stronger by the day with the love and support of her family and friends. She is an incredible person with a strength and courage, that is inspiring.
So I dedicate this blog to my family, to my friends and to all people who overcome hardships and come back stronger.
Onwards from here.

I wish you good luck, good health for your family. I abhor racism in all it’s forms and found Greece particularly bad. That’s why I will never live there even though my Sweetie mentions it from time to time…:)
I hope things are better now for your family, too.
Regarding the case of the Roma at Votankinos, you wrote about journalists having contacted you — have there been or will there be any news articles in the Greek MSM?
And do you have any news from the Greek Helsinki Monitor?
Let’s hope that everything would be better for you form now on. You know that you have the support of the greek blogosphere’s majority
Wish you the best for you and your beloved ones
There are always people near you who care, remember this!
I’m very happy to hear this, and to have been able to chip in a little. I read that post, too, it made a great point. But the whole conversation begins to blend together (as happens on the net), and I don’t recall, either. It was a great point.
And while it was a small thing I did individually, it makes me most happy to hear the swarm that responded. Damn happy to hear how many of us feel this was important to do.
Keep on, mujer. Keep being strong.
amen…
You have chosen a good fight DD. Stay strong!
dear DD - i have been out of it for the past 10 days and still am due to exhaustion but just thought i would spend some time checking blogs and came across this. Just hang in there - there are loads of people who have great respect for you even though we dont know or need to know your real identity. I am just so sorry you had to go through this.
I will be ending my travels next week and be back home in Spain after about 6 months. So hopefully can join a first chat session with you. Take care and all the best
