Hmmmm. Hephaestos, you are one of the banned people here. Yet you continue to post? No discussion occurs here because of your comments. Only bad feeling. I have had a number of emails from people asking me to put an end to your comments, so understand it is not just me. Your attitudes do not create debate or thought and neither do comments from banned? and the rest of your allies.

If I am wrong about this, could you point out where real debate has happened here because of you or people who agree with you. I think you will have problems finding them. I know this blog inside out (obviously) and I found nothing.

Excuse me. The final paragraph should read,

It would be nice to see more viewpoints, and a reasonable debate between them. It is, in my opinion, perfectly reasonable to debate your values and beliefs. You can even lose that debate without surrendering your belief in them; it is not necessary to have every answer at your fingertips.

However, it is important to be debating from the same core principles. In humanities, as in mathematics, all derived principles are based off of certain core assumptions. If you can’t agree on those basics, you won’t be able to have a meaningful debate. Perhaps it would be useful to agree on what the core beliefs of this community are. That way, people could exchange opposing viewpoints that are nonetheless based on compatible principles. Instead of preaching to the choir (with people who already agree), or shouting into the wind (with people who will never agree), we could hold rational discussions with people we could, at some point, find common ground.

Without debate, we’re doomed to follow the strongest voices instead of the wisest ones. I have to agree with Banned. There is very little debate on this blog. Just mindless head nodding and silly immature platitudes.

Can anyone imagine if the world operated like this? We would all be living as slaves.

You have the liberty to say whatever you may feel but that doesn’t oblige the rest of us swallow the nonsense. This is a private space and if DD feels that your words are offending, then OMG they probably were. Btw this is my personal opinion.

How arrogant you are, miss dd. We “threatend to be banned” people have something to say too. You might disagree with us but why do you just delete? Why don’t you have the discussions that you say you want. I am anti-immigration but I don’t want to kill immigrants or treat them badly. I just don’t want them here. What is so threatening about that and where are your pro-immigration arguments?

I would appreciate an intelligent answer if that’s possible.
