Go over to Black Looks and read this article about a Norwegian project to promote a beauty contest for landmine survivors in Angola and to create a fashion magazine for specially designed clothes for survivors. My reaction when I read it was similar to Sokari’s.

my gut reaction to this is that it is highly offensive, disgusting exploitation of African women.

What do you think ? Comments over at Black Looks.

  1. Hey DD,

I agree with you. Beauty pageants, magazines…gees, are they going to take the money they make and give it to these poor women so they can enrich and improve their lives? There’s a fine line between bringing much needed attention to an important issue and exploitation.
