Morrison is marvellous! You should add "Sula" to that list, I think. I first came across her when browsing in a bookshop. I spotted some comment on the cover like "the most damning indictment of slavery ever written" and was immediately intrigued. I thought it a huge claim to make for a book, but once I'd read it, I had to agree. Also saw her interviewed by Salman Rushdie, on telly, years ago. You'd have thought it was Rushdie being interviewed, as he talked so much she could hardly get a word in. Even so, she was regal. A formidable intellect combined with a gracious humanity. She's the bee's knees for me!
