Anti-spam Word

Two people in the past two days have lost their comments due to my anti-spam word plugin. Since I implemented it, I have had zero spam compared to 50+ a day (which is great). However, I am very concerned that people have lost their comments because of it. I am going to look today to see if there is another way to prevent spam without having to type in a keyword or at least one that gives you a chance to use your back button if you forget to type it in. Sorry people. I am constantly tweaking and updating in an effort to make my blog as friendly as possible and some things I have implemented just don’t work. That’s the wild, whacky world of blogging for you !

    Ms DD,
Whatever you do, I strongly advise you to keep the anti-spam feature!
I wouldn’t want to be responsible (because of my foolish mistake and haste) for your site’s spam flooding.

Perhaps you can make the anti-spam feature bigger, more eye-catching.
e.g. blogger.com and blog.com have this dazzling, blinding feature and flashes a big neon sign “YA FORGOT THE VERIFICATION WORD YOU DODO”,… well, actually it’s bit more polite, but you get the gist.

Normally, I press a Ctrl+A (select all) and then a Ctrl+C (copy) to send my comment to my computer’s shallow memory (clipboard) before I venture on to the submit button. I have found it has helped me many times before, this time I was rather upset (because of the young girl’s rape) and in a hurry to post my two cents.

    p.s. I just noticed.
Maybe you could MOVE the “say it!”/submit button BELOW the anti-spam word.

Great advice Flubberwinkle but unfortunately I cannot move the spam word thingy after the submit button. I don’t know how! One is a template thing and one is a plugin.

If anyone knows how to do it, let me know!

akismet. it catches pretty much everything (it’s missed two in the time that i’ve had it), and almost never has a false positive.

hey sly civilian! Long time ? I have akismet already! It’s built into wordpress but it didn’t really work for me… I still got a ton of spam. Thanks anyway you.

Well, it is too bad the program erases the comment if you don’t type in the word instead of, as Flubberwinkle mentioned, reminding you that you didn’t type it without erasing the post.

Honestly, though, I still say keep the anti-spam word.

I’m on the lookout for one that just reminds you rather than eating your comments! I hadn’t realised that was the case because I don’t have to fill in the word being the administrator!
Apologies again for your lost words.

DD, I suggest the two anti-spam plugins I’ve been using in my own WP blog bcSpamBlock (which is amazingly good) and Bad Behaviour. Both block bots from enterring the site at all and are invisible to normal humans. Ever since I’ve used bcSpamBlock I’ve not had a simple spam caught by akismet.

    Hope it helps

What do mean by Anti-spam word? How to create it?

    @ Prashantha Naik

Hi and welcome to my blog.

I used to have a plugin here which forced people to type a word that came up in a small box to prevent spam bots attacking this blog. It’s called “captcha” Unfortunately, people kept forgetting to type the word and lost their entire comment. I am still looking for one which reminds people to type in the word without eating their valuable contributions.
