He’s guilty now, following a trial, but being “on the run” is not a proof of guilt, I think.

No, David Duff, (shame about the initials!), it is not proof of guilt in any way. But in this case, that some of us have been following for quite some time now, the statement about innocence just doesn’t cut it.
