Book Meme
Published by deviousdiva August 1st, 2006 in Personal.A welcome distraction from serious blogging, G Bitch tagged me for this one:
1: One book that changed your life.
Winnie the Pooh by A.A Milne. The first "big" book I read that sparked my life-long love of reading.
2: One book you have read more than once.
Many but I'll pick the most recent: Espedair Street by Iain Banks
3: One book you would want on a desert island.
I'll be predictable and say The Complete Works of William Shakespeare.
4: One book that made you laugh?
Inconceivable by Ben Elton
5: One book you wish had been written?
Beloved by Toni Morrison
6: One book you wish had never had been written?
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. One of the only book hypes that I have ever fallen for and I wasted my hard-earned cash to get and then wanted to throw it at Dan Browns head. The most appalling writing I have read for a long, long time.
7: One book that made you cry?
Billy by Albert French. The story of ten-year-old boy who is convicted and executed for the murder of a white girl in Banes County, Mississippi in 1937. A harrowing, haunting story of racism and injustice.
8: One book you are currently reading?
The Longest Day by Cornelius Ryan. An account of the first day of the Allied invasion on the Normandy beaches (June 6th 1944)
9: One book you have been meaning to read?
A People's History of the United States: 1492-Present by Howard Zinn
10: Now tag five people

I’ve heard wonderful things about Billy and it could’ve been one on my long list of "been meaning to read." Zinn’s book is long and dense with facts but an excellent read. Puts this backwater in perspective.
Oh, and I’m glad you tagged Bint and Dave. I wanted to tag them, too.Your blog is LOVely.
Cheers G Bitch. I‘m so glad you de-lurked a while back. Great to hear from you. Billy is brilliant and terrible. Get it if you can. It’s such a drag sometimes, I just can’t afford all the books I want to read. Wait ! I can’t afford ANY of the books I want to read!
[BTW I posted the last in the Roma series today... for now. On Racism... I will say no more for now...]
Diva, seeing as if you are living in Hellas why don’t you read the Memoirs of General Makrygiannis or Ion Dragoumis or Thea Halo or Christos Yiannaras or Cornelius Castoriadis?
Tag received. Thanks for thinking of me. I enjoy talking about books.
Thanks DD, I turn my back for a few days and wind up with a task! Not an unpleasant one though and thanks for tagging me…
