Kidnapping Update

In the case of the kidnapping of 28 Pakistani men by Greek and British agents, we have this ridiculous comment from Vyron Ploydoras, the Public Order minister

Mutual kidnapping is the national sport in which members of the most amiable Pakistani community in our country indulge

He came up with that gem in a parlimentary session and was pulled up on it by the leader of Left Coalition Synaspismos, Alekos Alavanos who said:

Stop this story-telling and racism. The [prosecutor’s] report rules out the possibility that the kidnappings were carried out by the Pakistani community

The opposition party spokesman Nikos Athanassakis also said his comment was

racist and unacceptable

After that exchange

Alavanos asked Polydoras if the British and Greek governments had discussed the possibility of covering up the affair. “I do not know and even if I did, I would not tell you,” Polydoras replied.

It seems that there is another mature and responsible minister in charge of public order in Greece. The previous one Giorgos Voulgarakis, now minister of culture, is accused in this lawsuit of shielding guilty parties and lying in Parliament about the incident.

I did say before that Polydoras’ comments were embellished:

memebers of a(ny) community may (do) engage in crimes but accusing the whole community is outright racist and this is what he did: he accused “our Paksitani brotehrs who live in Greece of engaging in the sport of mutual kidnapping” The folloiwng is from the OFFICIAL parleimentary transcript.

“Ξέρετε σε τι σπορ επιδίδονται οι αδερφοί μας Πακιστανοί, οι παρεπιδημούντες στην Ελλάδα; Στο σπορ της αρπαγής, στο σπορ της απαγωγής αμοιβαίως. Ο ένας απάγει τον άλλο. Συμπηγνύουν συμμορίες με σκοπό την απαγωγή.”

If these Pakistanis were terrorists, would anyone be mad? Since the events of 911, many countries are taking extra security measures against people and groups who may want to take down our way of life.

By contrast, I don’t see police forces arresting or kidnapping Little Old Japanese Grandmothers… Why? Well, maybe because Little old Japanese Grandmothers are NOT hijacking planes and blowing themselves up in supermarkets.

Think about who the terrorists are and what their demographic is, and maybe people will be a little more sympathetic to the Police and their motives for protecting us from terrorism.

I see, you got the point but wanted to make sure everybody else did too.

By the logic of Mr./Ms. Don’t forget 911, we should live our lives knowing that any one of us could be picked up and beaten to shit because of the ruling prejudices and ignorance of those particular neanderthals on that particular day.

Anyone of us could be next. As is proved by history

“First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
    Then they came for me
and there was no one left
    to speak out for me”

she is a turkish so she is not greek. Why did you argue this thing? She is not Greek how can she be for Greece.

  11. 11 deviousdivaNo Gravatar

Well She IS Greek . Why do I argue such a thing ? Hmmm. Because she is Greek and has the right to stand as a candidate for Greece ?

  12. 12 scarf +No Gravatar

Then throw her out. If she isn’t Greek, then she had no right to be born in Greece, and her parents and grandparents and great-grandparents had no right to be born in Greece either.

Good point, Anonymous, you chickenshit racist nobody.

Sadly some very abusive and unintelligable responses above to what may be a legitimate question. Another question that arises is that in order to deal effectively with fascism or fascist behaviour does one have to become fascist-like themselves? Is resorting to this self contradictory behaviour an indicator of a lack of rational justification for a prior held position.

Also, I believe very few people really understand fascism. It would surprise most people that it arose within socialist circles in Italy. And many of the Italian fascists where not racist until they were made to be at the barrel of a gun after their deal with Hitler. Metaxas was also not known for being a racist. However, obviously Hitler was. This is part of the reason that fascism is still widely admired in Italy although this mystifies the rest of the world.

By the way, Anonymous, you posted your comment on the wrong thread. This is about the kidnapping of Pakistani men not Gulbeyaz Karahasan.
