Buru, Grissom is the man! I'm on to Season 4 on DVDs....

Flubber: Can I use your ashwholes phrase. That's quite a good one to get around the FCC's profanity rule (wink wink).

I think that this topic has officially left the building....

To the self-proclaimed "superior" Greeks,

Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Sincerely,
An inferior Greek who hopes the rest of the world doesn't think we're all ash-wholes.

The key to really knowing a blog is to read some of the writers old stuff. If you had, you would not assumed Seawitch was Greek. Also, why suddenly that she is not Greek becomes a problem and gets her into your sights? Truth is truth, whether spoken by a Greek or a Canadian.

As my friend Grissom always says, "People lie, but the evidence never does".

Just saw that from some far away place of an international meeting

One comemnt only to all those who here or elsewhere ask the question about what Karahasan is and imply that "loaylties" matter: there are Greek minority minstres in the Albanian government and Albanina minority ministers in the Macedonian government and from time to time Turkish ministers in Bulgaria and Hungarian ministers in Romania. Could you please adjust the "question" and see how much sense it makes...

Please don't go over and attack Seawitch. It is common knowledge that she is not Greek, so I haven't revealed anything shocking but I would hate to be responsible for you having a go at her for it. She's a great writer and that should be appreciated.

I have no issue with you writing about your hair. In fact, I would prefer it if you wrote more about your hair and less about Greek politics. No, this is not right. Of course, you have the right to write about whatever you like, but then please expect commenters like me to respond and frequent your site.
On Seawitch, I'm shocked by your revelation she's not Greek. She's deceived me and is now firmly within my sights.

denonax, you seem to be stuck on this point about me saying I have little knowledge of Greece and it's history and culture. I have always been honest when I do not know something in response to people's questions but I do not blog about things I know nothing about. You also seem to have a bit of an issue with me writing about my hair! Not sure why?

Coatrack
The Seawitch is Greek, while Melusina – who, by the way, writes very sweetly and is the best of the non-Greek ex-pat bloggers – rarely touches on Greek politics and, like I said, the reason I feel compelled to respond to DD is because not only does she consistently comment on Greek affairs, but she does so even though she admits she only has a rudimentary knowledge of Greece, its history and culture. This is peculiar in the extreme.
I can comment on English affairs because, having been born, raised, educated and taken the time to read and think about England, I have a certain knowledge of this country. I would refrain, however, from commenting on black feminism or what it's like to have unruly hair, because I have no knowledge of these areas.

I too would like this discussion to end. It should have ended a long time ago.

Sunni Side,

Tell me, do you go over to a man's house for the first time, do you take off your shoes? Do you put your feet up on his coffee table? Do you walk in the kitchen, eat food that doesn't belong to you? Open the door to rooms you got no business opening?

So, why are you doing this to Diva? She is God. Please don't argue with her. It's her blog and there are other Islands out there, but we choose to agree with Diva. If you don't, hit google and find one of those other Islands.

I hope you don't think your mushy speech will make Diva change her mind. From reading her blog, she is a smart, intelligent lady who doesn't sway from her point of view.

So, just move on with the rest of the people who disagree with us on this blog. In fact, why don't you guys just make your own blog. Then you can come over and take a peek at what we're saying and then you can blog your responses to us.

Think of it like you guys are the "Others" living in the jungle on one side of an island, and we are like the people living on the beach side.

I let this discussion run and run and as I pointed out
This conversation is WAY off track"
The original thread was about the Muslim woman standing as a candidate in Northeren Greece. What I am saying at this point is enough is enough, because people have become abusive towards each other and that is NOT a discussion. I draw the line at personal insults towards myself and anyone else on this blog. And I don't care who started it and who joined in and who said what, just that I don't like it and it doesn't help dialogue. There will be no notices of "only like-minded people can comment" I have never closed down an argument where people are debating uncomfortable issues. You would know that if you read more of this blog.
As Scruffy American pointed out one of the problems here is that a couple of blogs that some of you frequent have closed down (or are a little slow at the moment) and I feel you have brought your arguments over here so you can continue them. I haven't seen some of you here for such a long time that I don't think it's a coincidence that you are back here now. I could be wrong, but thats how it feels to me.

I am not even going to talk about which issues I can or cannot blog about. We have been over that many times in the past. Just get used to it or please find other blogs that are more to your taste. I write what I write. That is my right. It is also your right to get yourself a blog and write whatever you want. Do not expect me to be jumping over there, telling you that you cannot write about problems and issues in England just because I am English.

Personally, I would prefer not to play the role of big bad controlling babysitter, but if these comments disintergrate to the point where people are afraid to speak up for fear of being insulted and swiped at, then it is up to me to put a stop to it.

I have not deleted comments that critisise me personally and my writing or your negative opinions about my blog. I am sure people are able to judge for themselves, so I am not going to waste anymore of my time justifying myself against false accusations.

Ethnocentrist, I shall miss you. You write very very well, and I've enjoyed reading your comments and have had a good laugh at all the toings and froings between you and Buru and Scarf+ and demonax. I haven't always found your views to accord with mine, but, then, I like to be challenged and you have made some excellent point in a more moderate way that on your own blog ...
This:

"The issue of superiority is universal and not only amongst whites. ALL races view their kind favourably and all enjoy being with others of their own kind."

is, I think, necessarily true, though not limited to race. I think saying that someone, some race, some place is "better" is saying "I prefer it". It is personal and impossible to substantiate with facts being too tied up with emotion. It could be that you preferred those who went to University together, those who played sport together, those who live in the same otherwise nondescript small town. It's about love, at base, and preference which is part of love. If you love someone or something or some place you incline towards it, necessarily prefer it over other otherwise similar people, things or places. I love my children, my husband, my garden, my town, my wardrobes (yes, even my wardrobes), my values. But I can recognise that other people love other things and are inclined towards those. It would take an unbelievable arrogance and small mindedness to be absolutely sure that my preferences were always right, would it not?

I also do not think that IQ tests tell the whole picture though they are a good indicator of strengths in some areas and, moreover, since I am female, I feel no need to tell everyone what my score usually is ...

My point?

I am sorry that Devious Diva cannot accommodate you on her site. I guess that is the difference between a forum and a blog, and I prefer the former. I tend to think that if you publish your thoughts for the whole on-line world to read, you should expect to attract challenges to those thoughts. DD, relinquish control a bit. You do not need necessarily to respond to comments that make you mad ... we don't think you are associated with them. See your self more as a facilitator of lively discussions that the diva that all bow before. You can just post another blog and move on, but something you read in response might just alter your perspective. Otherwise, why not have a restricted readership of like minded people?

Ethnocentrist, I shall miss you. You write very very well, and I’ve enjoyed reading your comments and have had a good laugh at all the toings and froings between you and Buru and Scarf+ and demonax. I haven’t always found your views to accord with mine, but, then, I like to be challenged and you have made some excellent point in a more moderate way that on your own blog …

“The issue of superiority is universal and not only amongst whites. ALL races view their kind favourably and all enjoy being with others of their own kind.”

is, I think, necessarily true, though not limited to race. I think saying that someone, some race, some place is “better” is saying “I prefer it”. It is personal and impossible to substantiate with facts being too tied up with emotion. It could be that you preferred those who went to University together, those who played sport together, those who live in the same otherwise nondescript small town. It’s about love, at base, and preference which is part of love.
